“Well-behaved women seldom make history.”  ― Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

As we look ahead to Women’s History Month in March, let’s take a moment to reflect on the all the women throughout history who’ve made extraordinary leaps and bounds, advanced the course of our understanding of the world, or simply entertained and amazed us. And maybe the best way to celebrate their accomplishments is to simply thank and honor each of the extraordinary women in our own lives. In the PA RV community, we’re surrounded by them!

Imagine how many women we meet on the road have been inspired by Amelia Earhart and Christa McAuliffe. Both of these women have been honored with specially designated days in January (Earhart on January 11 and McAuliffe on January 28). Earhart was the first female pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and consequently received the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross. McAuliffe was an American teacher from Concord, New Hampshire, and tragically was one of the seven crew members killed in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. Their courage lives on.

Pennsylvania’s own pioneering women include: acting legend Ethel Barrymore; American Impressionist Mary Cassatt; revolutionary authors Louisa May Alcott and Gertrude Stein; and boundary-shattering singer Marian Anderson, just to name a few. Take the Winnebago or Jayco motorhome and visit historic sites in Pennsylvania related to women in the abolition movement, like the Fair Hill Burial Ground and Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society.

Who has inspired you to make a bold move, branch out as a pioneer in your own field, or maybe just pull out the map and plan a daring road trip? Let us know!
